ECU Football Uniform Design Competition
November 2021 - September 2022
In the fall of 2021, I entered a competition for students in the East Carolina University Graphic Design Program to design an alternate football uniform. Out of a group of 10 finalists, my design was chosen as the winner! I was awarded a $5000 scholarship, my design was created and has been worn several times since!
Design Concept
"Modern Throwback"
My concept was a “Modern Throwback” with the intention of connecting multiple decades of Pirate Football. I used elements from different Pirate uniforms from 1970 until now to represent multiple generations of Pirate fans! I want the fans to celebrate our past and get excited for the future!
I used elements from multiple decades in my design going back to the 1970's. Each element represents a different moment in time and will remind fans of their favorite Pirate football memories!

Reveal & Game Action
After nearly a year of secrecy, my Modern Throwback Uniform was revealed on September 25th on the ECU Football social media accounts! The Modern Throwback Uniforms made their official debut on October 15th for our 2022 Homecoming game against the Memphis Tigers resulting in a 47-45 quadruple overtime victory for the Pirates!
After an incredible season the Pirates wore my uniforms in the 2022 Ticketsmarter Birmingham Bowl in Birmingham, Alabama! The Pirates defeated the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 53-29 to win the 10th bowl game in school history!
National Recognition
Awards & Media Coverage
My uniform design story was featured on SportsCenter, Uniswag, ESPN and many local news sources! Additionally the Modern Throwback Uniform design was voted the 2022 Throwback Uniform of the Year by Uniswag! Miniature versions of my helmet design as well as replica jerseys are also being sold in local bookstores around the University! And the Uniforms have recently been added to the EA NCAA Football 25 video game!
